Shot Abrasive Consumption Calculation
Sino Wheelabrator specializes in manufacturing shot blasting machines, sandblasting machines, accessories, and steel shot abrasives. Today, we’re sharing our calculation method for steel shot consumption in shot blasting machines.
consumption of "stainless-steel" shot abrasive:
Stainless steel shot is primarily used for cleaning and roughening non-ferrous metal surfaces. Its density is over twice that of aluminum shot, allowing ideal cleaning at reduced blasting speeds. It produces bright, smooth, matte finishes without workpiece contamination and significantly outlasts aluminum shot.
Actual measurements show processing 1 ton of aluminum alloy casting consumes ~2 kg of aluminum shot. Under identical conditions, 1 kg of stainless steel shot replaces:
- 17 kg of corundum grit
- 100 kg of glass beads
- 3-4 kg of standard cast steel shot
- 3 kg of aluminum or zinc shot
Consequently, stainless steel shot offers the lowest consumption and waste generation under the same processing conditions, minimizing abrasive and waste handling costs.
consumption of "Casting" shot abrasive::
- Compared to consuming 1 kg of stainless-steel shot abrasive, equivalent consumption would be 17 kg of corundum sand grit, 100 kg of glass beads, 3-4 kg of ordinary steel shot, or 3 kg of aluminum shot or zinc shot.
- The road shot blasting machine cleans the surface by projecting steel shots. These shots wear down as work progresses. Based on actual calculations, the machine can process 2000-2500 square meters of flat road surface daily during an eight-hour shift. Shot consumption is approximately 100 kg per 10,000 square meters processed, meaning roughly half a ton of steel shot is needed for that area.
